The Soul Number (Soul Urge Number) is different from the Life Path Number and the Destiny Number. The Life Path Number, which is calculated by the individual's date of birth, explains the characteristic traits of the people born with it and the Destiny Number, which is calculated by the birth name of the person, explains in detail about the life's mission of an individual. The Soul Number, on the other hand, tells us about the individual's internal wishes. Thus, it is also rightly called the heart's desire. This number is seldom discussed as it is of a personal nature to every individual and many would refrain from exposing their internal secrets before everyone. However, following the Soul Number would give an individual a true sense of contentment and well-being as his heart's desires and cravings would be fulfilled.

The Soul Number is calculated by using the vowels (a, e, i, o, u). The first step is to omit all the consonants in the name. Then, referring to the above table, each vowel has to be replaced with number it lies under. The letters W and Y are consonants too. But when they are used before or after a vowel and sounds just like the vowel, they too are considered while calculating the Soul Number. Thus, every vowel would have a corresponding digit. All these digits are added and the total obtained is added further in order to obtain a single digit number. Even, in the case of Master Numbers, the digits are added to get a single digit. This number obtained is called the Soul Number.

Thus, Soul Numbers are extremely personal in nature as it is what an individual's heart desires. It is neither a trait nor a mission but simply one of the individuals hidden cravings that, when fulfilled, would give immense contentment and satisfaction.
